There are over 2 million blog posts published every single day, according to one source. In today’s world, just simply putting out content doesn’t cut it. My most recent blog got 50,000 visits in my first month. Notice how I neglected to mention the other 25 websites and blogs I started that barely got any traffic and failed. If you can relate to that, I feel your pain. Don’t worry, today I am going to tell you EXACTLY how I did it.
Quality Content is the Key
I already pointed out how many blog posts are published every single day. In other words, it is a lot! Anybody, can put out content. What if I told you, the most important thing is quality content. You can only do so much to spread the word about content, the content has to be able to carry its own weight. I know, it seems obvious and how is that supposed to help me?
How to Put out Quality Content?
Study successful blogs in your niche and reverse engineer what they are doing. When I started following what they were doing my traffic increased 50%. Content writing is more than just, writing content. You can have the best content around, but if you are not asking the right questions about your content it will never stand out from all the noise.
I asked myself questions, a ton of questions.
- How many words are in the posts?
- How are they structured or a wall of text?
- How much data, research and examples are used (vs personal opinions)?
- Did they use images? Are they any good (or poor quality)?
- How many external resources are used, linked to?
- Is it useful? Does it contain action-items?
- Is it well-written, interesting to read?
- Legibility: what’s the font size and color (is it easy to read)? Nice typography?
Step #1: Find content (in the form of blog posts, guides, infographics and videos) in your niche that has already done well.
Step #2: Take what you find and make it even better.
Step #3: Promote your content directly to people that would be interested in it.
Will this strategy work for everyone? Most likely, not. First, you need to be a writer or hire one. If you struggle with putting more than a couple paragraphs together, then you may need help. I struggled with this same problem for a long time. That’s why I started Write.my and I am using this method as you read this. The competition is intense and if you are spending a bunch of time doing this and not seeing results it can be counter-productive. It might be time to outsource it.
